The Author Behind the Chapters
Author • Speaker • Blogger • Multiple Myeloma Advocate
KT Roland is an award-winning author, journalist, speaker, and multiple myeloma advocate whose work blends personal storytelling with science-based education. A Journalism and Communications graduate of Indiana University and certified in Social and Behavioral Research, she brings both investigative curiosity and lived experience to her writing about cancer, survivorship, and the human experience.
After being diagnosed with advanced multiple myeloma in 2020, Roland transformed one of the most difficult chapters of her life into a mission to educate, advocate, and help others feel less alone. Through her writing and patient outreach, she gives patients, caregivers, and families an honest look at life with an incurable blood cancer while offering hope without minimizing its realities.
She is the author of the children's books Understanding Grandma's Battle with Multiple Myeloma and Grandma Doesn't Look Sick, created to help children understand what it means when someone they love is living with cancer and chronic illness.
Roland is also the author of The Survival Chapters, a memoir trilogy chronicling her experience with multiple myeloma and life beyond treatment. Skywalk to Survival follows her diagnosis, treatment, and fight to reach stem cell transplant during the COVID-19 pandemic. Its sequel, Day Zero, takes readers inside the transplant itself—the isolation, complications, fear, and extraordinary fight to survive. The final installment, Still Here, explores what comes afterward, when surviving cancer is no longer the finish line but the beginning of learning how to live again.
Beyond writing, Roland serves as a Myeloma Coach, working directly with patients and families as they navigate diagnosis, treatment, and life with the disease. She is also the founder and sole administrator of Myeloma For Life™, an educational and advocacy platform dedicated to providing accessible, science-based myeloma information, challenging misinformation, and building a community where patients and families can learn from and support one another.
